Washington Capital United COVID-19 Protocols
Updated 1/13/2022
Washington Capital United (WCU) encourages their staff, players, and eligible household members to get vaccinated and boosted (6 months after the second shot) at a free DC site, doctor’s office, or other location. WCU is operating under the DC and CDC COVID-19 guidelines when assessing the indoor and outdoor environment our players train and play in. WCU follows DC Health guidelines, where more stringent (i.e. DC requires 10-days isolation, while CDC requires 5-days).
WCU staff, players and household members should:
Refrain from participating in WCU in-person activities, if they test positive, have symptoms, or came into close contact with a person who tested positive for or has COVID-19 symptoms.
Refrain from participating in WCU in-person activities, until quarantine and test requirements are met, based on DC Health guidelines (as of November 29, 2021). This applies to scenarios with a positive COVID-19 diagnosis, there are symptoms in the player's household, or there was a close contact.
Refrain from participating in WCU in-person activities, if they were notified of the exposure, until they have met the testing and quarantine requirements, as instructed (for example DCPS or other school entity).
Notify WCU if you received a positive COVID-19 test and participated in an in-person WCU activity within the prior 14-days.
If you test positive, regardless of vaccination status:
Refrain from participating in WCU in-person activities and quarantine for 10-days.
If you have no symptoms or your symptoms resolve after 10-days, you can leave your home, as stated by the DC Health guidelines.
Continue to wear a mask around others for 10 additional days.
If you have a fever, continue to quarantine, until your fever resolves.
If you are exposed to someone with COVID-19 and are boosted and/or fully vaccinated (Pfizer or Moderna within last 6 months, J&J within last 2 months):
Wear a mask around others for 10-days.
Test on day 5, if possible.
If you develop symptoms, get tested and refrain from participating in WCU in-person activities, while you wait for the results.
If you are exposed to someone with COVID-19, are not vaccinated or complete the series of Pfizer or Moderna over 6 months ago or J&J over 2 months ago:
Refrain from participating in WCU in-person activities for 10-days. Afterward, continue to wear a mask around others for 5 additional days (exception: DCPS students stay home 7 days and return on day 8, if the PCR test is negative on day 5 from exposure).
If you can’t quarantine, wear a mask for 10-days.
Test on day 5, if possible.
If you develop symptoms, get tested and quarantine in your home.
Practice and Game Protocols
Player tests positive following an outdoor training session:
Coach or manager notifies the Director of Operations and Club Administrator.
Coach or manager notifies the team (without disclosing player name), including applicable dates and any required actions.
Players who came into close contact with an infected player will be asked to refrain from participating in WCU in-person activities until they provide documentation of a negative result (note: those who tested positive and have recovered from COVID within the prior 90-days, may return with documentation).
The team manager should contact WCU’s Director of Operations and Club Administrator to reschedule a practice canceled due to COVID WCU protocols.
Player tests positive following an indoor practice or game:
Coach or manager notifies the Director of Operations and Club Administrator.
Coach or manager notifies the team (without disclosing player name) and the opposing team, if applicable, including applicable dates and any required actions.
Cancel training sessions or games scheduled, within 5-days of the event.
Resume training once players can provide documentation of a negative PCR test taken within 3-5 days of the event (note: those who tested positive and have recovered from COVID within the prior 90 days, may return with documentation).
Players who did not attend the in-person activity may train with another similar team until their home team’s session resumes.
Return to play for players who test positive
Player/player's household needs to alert the team, as soon as possible, if the player attended practice up to 2-days before a COVID positive result.
Player/player's household must follow the DC Health Isolation and Quarantine Guidance 10-days of isolation following a positive test (this is different from the current CDC guidelines).
Testing required for tournament play
Players and staff must provide documentation of a negative PCR test taken within 72 hours of play.
Please note, these guidelines are based on the state department of health and tournament guidance. They are fluid and subject to change.
